Tuesday 2nd June
Hello again Year 3! I hope you are all rested and full of sunshine, ready for your learning. I have really enjoyed having some time to listen to the birds this week - they are loving this beautiful weather too. I also took a walk along the river and saw so many little ducklings and goslings (who can tell me which adult goslings belong to?), they were paddling their little webbed feet so hard under the water to keep up with their parents!
Ok, I know I said that we would be using google classroom this week, but there was a mini glitch and so we have to wait just a couple more days and it will be sorted. Can't wait!
I hope to hear from you all soon,

Oh my goodness - I got the day and date totally wrong in my last post didn't I? I'm so sorry!
Happy hump day everyone. I hope you have had a good start to the week, the lovely weather has returned for our holiday! I will definitely be spending some time reading in the sun (I am still trying to read my really long book, it is taking such I long time, but I love it). The enemy have just attacked the castle, but only from the east side. The characters and I were puzzled by this for a while, until we realised it was because they were drawing our attention away from the west side. While they were fighting, the enemy had dug a tunnel underneath the west wall into the castle kitchens! So exciting!
What have you been reading Year 3?

Wednesday 13th May
Happy Wednesday Year 3. It was SO nice to speak to most of you yesterday. I'm sorry I didn't get round to calling you all, I was just too chatty! I will speak to those of you I missed this morning - please look out for a withheld number as I will be calling from my own phone.
Some of you were telling me that after working at home so long, you were finding it hard to concentrate on your work now. I just want to encourage you that you are doing so, so well, you need to keep up your energy for learning as you will find it so much easier when you come back to school. There are lots of distractions at home, I get distracted too, but if you line up all your rewards for after you have finished your work, this can be a great incentive. Keep going super troopers!

I have a bit of bad news about our book Year 3. The next chapter contains a some sad news. Unfortunately, after such a wonderful life dedicated to tending his garden, grandpa dies. This is a beautifully written chapter and describes Lucy's sadness very well. We have decided however, as this is a sensitive subject, we won't be planning any activities around it because we are not in class to discuss any worries or answer any questions that you might have. I am more than happy to email you the chapter if your adult emails to ask for it.
Today's chapter looks at Lucy's thoughts about Lob, now that Grandpa has gone.

Hello Year 3! What a beautiful weekend for a bank holiday. I hope you had a little time with the sun on your face on your daily walk. Boris has said we are allowed out a bit more now, as long as you are being careful not to be too near anyone - we must keep trying to keep everyone safe!
Boris has also said that year 3 won't be going back to school just yet. Thank goodness you are doing so well at working hard at home. That doesn't mean you aren't missing your friends though. Me too. We can only be positive and look at the time we have to spend with our families and the time we have to watch the seasons change. We are able to read, and play, and get creative. We have time to learn new skills and practice things we weren't so good at before. We will be able to see each other soon. I also look forward to speaking to you all this week on the phone!
Here are your lessons for Monday and Tuesday. Can I add this week that I really want you to make a conscious effort with your handwriting. You know what the expectations are and I think it is inevitable ( certain to happen) that your handwriting will have got a little bit worse. please do a little extra practice if you think you need it.

It is VE day today, so a great project for the day would be to investigate what VE Day is and why we celebrate it. The BBC have a special show at 2.45, broadcasting parts of Winston Churchill's victory speech and at 8pm they have a celebration of 30s and 40s music followed by a message from the queen.
If you are feeling super clever, you could to make sure you know another 5 of your spelling words. You don't just need to copy them out, you could write them in bubble writing, or write them out many times to produce a picture like the apple below.

Here we go with lesson two of fractions with Mr East. Good luck!
English Reading Task
There are a few parts to this lesson today. Keep up (smiley face)!
You will need colours today as you will be drawing. Here we go.
1. Have a listen to the poem I am reading in the 'Poem' link below. It is on the first page of our story, just before chapter 1 and gives a good clue as to the setting of our story.
2. Have a listen to the poem again, but this time listen very carefully to all of the parts as you will now need to draw what you can hear. You can listen to it as many times as you need.
3. Once you have finished your drawing, take a piece of paper to one of the windows in your house and open up the window (you will need to get an adult to help you). You need to make a list of all the things you can hear when you close your eyes.
4. Have a look at 'Part 4 - Picture'. Can you use the poem and the list of things you just heard out of the window to label your drawing? Add as much description as you can. You may copy words from the poem and use them to label too.

Hello Year 3!
How are you? What a strange time we are living in! I hope you have been able to enjoy some work free days at home for the last couple of weeks, and found lots of things to entertain yourselves. I have been making pictures with sequins, doing some colouring, making some origami frogs and tackling a HUGE book that I started (it has 840 pages, but I am determined to finish it!). I would love to hear about your indoor adventures, I miss you all very much! There are a few children I haven't heard from yet and I'm desperate to know how you are doing! Please continue to email me at info@scsj.rbkc.sch.uk with your thoughts, activities and completed work tasks.
Now we know that we will be continuing school from home for a while, I need you to be organised with your days and much more efficient with emailing your work to me. This just needs to be a photograph of the pages you have written or the projects completed. This can be done every day or once a week, that is up to you. We can discuss any problems with this when I call you all on Tuesday.
Right, let's get back to work my clever kids!
Maths
As I have not heard anything negative about using online maths lessons, I would like you to continue doing this. As maths is something a lot of parents find it hard to get their head around, and are unfamiliar with the way it is taught in school, I feel the video guidance is invaluable to us at this time.
Below is the link to a YouTube video. The video is about 20 minutes long, but has various points throughout where you will need to pause the video and carry out the tasks! Record the tasks in your book and send them to me. Your teacher today will be Mr East, be kind to him!
English Writing Task
Today, for your English writing task, I'd like you to write a diary entry for your most inventive, creative day during the holidays.
Remember to include some adverbs sentence starters, such as:
- Cautiously,
- Gratefully,
- Unwillingly,
- Joyfully,
- Gently,
Make sure you start your page with: Dear Diary,
Let's see what else you can remember about how to write a diary entry, I look forward to receiving these from you.
English Reading Task
Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at a new book together.
You will find your first reading task on the document below.

Happy Holidays Year 3!
How are you all? I have loved seeing all the fantastic work you have been doing, but most of all seeing what you have been up to! I miss you all very much!

What have you been up to? Feel free to email me when you like with the your news and home learning.
Here are a few holiday activities for you to have a go at if you'd like. Some of them are outside activities - you should be staying at home as much as possible, but you can plan and take these activities out with you only when you are allowed, not as an extra outing.
Stay safe and stay inside as much as possible,

There is no need to print the sheet if you don't have a printer, simply copy the answers into your book.

As we approach Easter, I have put together 3 English lessons that will explore the Easter story. Today, have a look at the missing words text and see if you can fill them in. Then, use the text to answer the Guided Reading questions at the bottom of the document, in your books. On Friday you will be asked a 'big write' question which you must answer with all the evidence you have and your opinions, so please pay close attention to each lesson. Check back on Wednesday for the next lesson.
